Our Story

Founded in 2017 and opened to the public at the end of 2018, Amp Studios was the conceptualisation of British producer/engineer Nick Loder. Nick had been working on projects in Nairobi previously and saw that many talented artists, producers and content creators didn't have access to great and affordable studio facilities. The studio was designed in collaboration with the renowned Australian acoustician John L Sayers, but Amp Studios isn't a typical recording studio. The live room features a full lighting grid as well as video lines to the control room switcher which allows live multi camera productions just like a TV studio (but with better sound!).

The Design

The studio was built inside an office unit shell using timber frame wall studs and gypsum and fabric frame walls. The shell is fully isolated from the exterior walls (room within a room) which provides superior sound isolation. Visibility between the different rooms was achieved using large sheets of DGU glass in the sliding doors so that the engineer can see into a separate recording booth as well as the larger live room. The air conditioning system was designed using silencer boxes that prevent fan noise from entering the room, and keep the air speed low so you cannot hear the air entering the room. The attention to detail in design and construction make for an awesome experience that must also be heard to be believed.
